Old Oak Common's 5095 " Barbury Castle " gets some close inspection from some of Bristol's enthusiasts after arrival here at Temple Meads on the down "Merchant Venturer", the 11:15 a.m from Paddington, due into Bristol at 1:28 p.m. with just one intermediate stop en route at Bath Spa.
The boys are a typical bunch of that period of time, complete with school satchel, cap and regulation raincoat in one instance, whilst long socks are definitely the order of the day !
The fireman has already removed one of the bufferbeam lamps in readiness for his engine to go over to Bath Road shed from where, after a brief watering and check this engine will work back home to Paddington on the rostered return duty, namely the 4:15 p.m "Bristolian" this same afternoon.
This down train will now be worked the last few miles to Weston Super Mare by a lighter engine.
