4090 1962-08-07 Banbury
A splendid image of 4090 " Dorchester Castle " here at Banbury , but I trust someone will shift that residue of ash which has just been cleared from her smokebox before the Shedmaster sees it!
Allocated to Old Oak Common in its earlier years 4090 was the first " Castle " to have a double chimney and led the field in showing just how efficient even the older batch of her class were to become in the following years following the fitting of improved superheated boilers , double chimneys , mechanical lubricators and new style outside steam pipes as shown here, all of which had followed earlier tests conducted at Swindon with 7018 " Drysllwyn Castle ".
4090 spent her later years allocated to a number of Welsh Motive Power Depots before being withdrawn from Cardiff East Dock in June of 1963
