5022 1950s Hatton Bank
A nicely composed image of Wolverhampton's 5022 , " Wigmore Castle " heading the through the cutting here at Hatton .
The splendid exhaust steam and smoke have been lifted well clear of the engine , something which often happened in a cutting such as this , to the cameraman's advantage , and pictures over the years from that similarly favoured location in Sonning Cutting near Reading invariably show the advantages of lineside photography in such cuttings with cross winds not having to be contended with.
5022 was a long term resident at Stafford Road , being allocated there throughout the ' fifties and into the early ' sixties . There's clearly been some substantial track renewal on the relief line , with new ballast and sleepers showing up well
Paul Carter adds "I did a lot of spotting here & at Hatton Stn. & of course 5022 was quite a regular.
The train is on the Down line so is a Paddington to Wolverhampton working"
