5084 1962-05-21 Acton
The photographer stands well back as Old Oak Common's 5084 Reading Abbey storms non stop through Acton on the Paddington main line on 21st . May, 1962, just two months before the engine was condemned in the July of that year. The first of the total of ten Castles rebuilt from Star class locomotives between early 1937 and late 1940 Reading Abbey was not fitted with a double chimney although she has the modified outside steam pipes seen in this view.
