7000 1960-08 Swindon Station

Allocated to 85B Gloucester Horton Road, with the milk train. Note the new Mk1 coach underframe in the yard.
One of Newton Abbot's allocation of well maintained " Castles " in the mid 'fifties , used regularly on the " Torbay Express " and other top link workings , 7000 , " Viscount Portal " receives attention from its driver here at Swindon .
The engine carries the incorrect "Express Passenger" lamp code for a milk working but perhaps the driver hasn't noticed his fireman's error with the lamps!
Following its time in the far West this engine went to Cardiff Canton for a short time before returning back home to Newton Abbot , its later years seeing it at Gloucester from June , 1959 and thence to Worcester four years later from where it was withdrawn in December 1963.
