7031 1955-07-30 Plymouth
On 11am Newquay-York This is platform eight at Plymouth North Road with Laira's 7031' Cromwell's Castle' on the strengthening coaches being added here...that looks like the fireman standing by the tender as 7031 , which has come down from Laira , is coupled up to the strengthening coaches which she will add to the train upon its arrival from Cornwall on platform seven after the engine which has worked up from Cornwall has been uncoupled and cleared that platform. There are a number of Royal Navy personnel on their way home , so it might be a Friday , or Saturday , as Naval ships coming into Devonport particularly on Fridays gave weekend leave to crew members and there are a couple of Seamen and Petty Officers visible , all in uniform which was the order of the day at that time , even when' Going Ashore' 7031 will work to Bristol Temple Meads on this duty.
