Ex-Great Western Railway Collett 'Hall' class 4-6-0 No. 5982 'Harrington Hall' (pilot). Built at Swindon in October 1938 and withdrawn in September 1962. Great western Railway designed Collett 'Castle' class 4-6-0 No. 7031 'Cromwell's Castle'. Built at Swindon in June 1950 and withdrawn in July 1963. This is the classic view from Torquay Road bridge at Newton Abbot in July 1957 . A double-headed express is departing with 5982 piloting 7031. This view remains recognisable today but with a much rationalised track layout and altogether scruffier. No surprises there I think!
