2273 1956-07 Carmarthen MPD
Ex-Great Western Railway Collett '2251' class 0-6-0 No. 2273. Built at Swindon in August. 1934 and withdrawn in December 1963. The GWR's 0-6-0 workhorses were the 260 locomotives of the renowned 'Dean Goods' class built from 1883. By 1930, a more modern version was required and thus 120 of the Collett '2251' class were built. Uprated features included higher pressure taper boilers, increased heating surfaces and full cabs. They were really true mixed traffic engines and were as likely to be seen on passenger duties as freight. 2273 is at Carmarthen MPD in July 1956.
