3201 1962-10 Brecon Station
Great Western Railway Collett '2251' class 0-6-0 No. 3201. Built at Swindin in Dec. 1946 and withdrawn in May 1965. The Collett '2251' class of 120 locomotives were designed with freight traffic in mind but experience showed they were just as happy on passenger work. A rather grubby 3201 from Newport 86A shed pauses at the attractive Brecon Station in the autumn of 1962 having worked a passenger train from Newport over the Brecon & Merthyr Railway line, it had only been there from September and would be in storage by February of the following year. At the end of March it would be despatched to Templecombe to work out the last years of its life.
After arrival in the platform it has set back its coaches in order to run round the train for the return journey, there being a crossover controlled by a ground signal just in front of where the coaches are parked, the loco itself will use the station turntable (behind the coaches in the bay platform) to turn.
