1000 1956-07 Totnes
Ex-Great Western Railway Hawksworth 'County' class 4-6-0 No. 1000 'County of Middlesex'. Built at Sindon in Aug. 1945 and withdrawn in July 1964. Purposefully departing westbound from Totnes in July 1956 is 'County of Middlesex'. Hawksworth's 'Counties' never quite became truly worthy successors to Collett's 'Castles'. I think traditional curved splashers and nameplates would have made all the difference, but according to the roadside billboard, adding BP fuel gives you more horsepower! Maybe that's the answer?
