Recorded as ex-Great Western Railway Collett 'King' class 4-6-0 No. 6016 'King Edward V'. Built at Swindon in March 1928 and withdrawn in September 1962. 'The Mayflower' arrives at Dawlish Station in October 1957. The train would have left Plymouth at 0830 and travel the 246 miles to Paddington for an 1140 scheduled arrival.
However Peter Kerslake says "I often saw and recorded the 8:30 a.m. from Plymouth on my way to Devonport High School in the early 1950s. It was never double headed as its load was always kept to or below the ten coach maximum for an unassisted "King" over the banks to Newton Abbot. In 1954 6016 was the third of the fourteen Kings to receive new front frames and replacement inside cylinder block. This is the location of the drastic breach of the line in 2014 following severe storm damage".
