822 1956-06-10 Welshpool Brook Street
Ex-Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway 0-6-0 Tank No.822. Built by Beyer Peacock of Manchester in September 1902 as WLLR No. 1 'Earl' and withdrawn for preservation in August 1961. Street running in Britain was once a relatively commonplace sight. In today's cotton wool-padded society we are denied such delightful scenes. Back in June 1956, Brook Street in Welshpool was happily accomodating both rail freight and road traffic. Pedestrians appear to be absent, but have had the common sense not to lay across the rails!
