Built by Robert Stephenson and Hawthorn in 1940 (works no 7006), ‘Roker’ is still working in August 1969 at Doxfords Shipyard. The backdrop is the yard itself on the bank of the River Wear. The locomotive was withdrawn in 1971 but the yard continued building ships until 1988.
