Warship No. D867 Zenith attracts the attention of some of the holidaymakers on the beach at Teignmouth on 9th July 1961 as it passes with the Down Cornish Riviera Express. Photographed from the 1870 built Rockstone Footbridge this splendid view shows a well filled beach with much of its sand covered by a high tide and Langstone Rock in the centre background but what that tower up on the left is , I do not know. Brunel formed a deep cutting for his single track between what is now Langstone Rock and the cliffs on the left when building the line through what was originally Langstone Point Headland , thereby isolating today's Langstone Rock , that cutting having been widened many times throughout the passing years . Exmouth can be made out across the mouth of the River Exe thanks to the clear visibility ,and the sea wall has its usual complement of afternoon walkers
