D808 1964c Plymouth
Approaching from Cornwall, No. D808 Centaur was one of the early 'Warships' built with a steam-style three position reporting panel. Its original plain green livery has been modified by the addition of a yellow warning panel in March 1962 but it did not receive a four-character train identification panel until the end of 1964. The line to the west curved sharply after passing through Devonport station and is visible in the background to the right of the diesel. The main line down into Cornwall via the Royal Albert Bridge just visible passing over the bridge at Victoria Park on the right , and the lines on the left are those for Plymouth Millbay , the parcels and freight distribution centre , and also serving the former G.W.R. Docks from where the Ocean Mail Special Transatlantic Boat Trains would begin their fastly timed non stop run up to Paddington. It was always possible to tell when there was such a Special coming up fom Millbay to non stop through North Road as a clear road would be signalled well in advance , ahead of the inevitable well turned out Castle at its head.
