D826 1967-05-10 Basingstoke

D826 1967-05-10 Basingstoke

D826 Jupiter at Basingstoke on 10th May 1967 with a train of green liveried stock, mostly of Southern Railway Bulleid origin which had a more rounded profile than the British Railways Mark 1 coaches which closely followed their design. Although at first sight the headcode looks appropriate for the route, it is doubly incorrect. The 1O66 did not exist and possibly should have been 1O86, because often the locomotive working the 1O86 Plymouth-Brighton would still carry that headcode when going forward from Salisbury on its next diagrammed train, the 14.35 Salisbury-Waterloo. D826 was not repainted in maroon, going straight to blue in January 1968.
