D868 1967-05-10 Basingstoke

No.D868 Zephyr leans into the curve at Basingstoke on 10 May 1967 with the 15.00 Waterloo to Exeter. The Swindon-built Warships took over the passenger workings on the Southern Region route to the West Country in August 1964 and had a virtual monopoly of the semi-fast services until October 1971; the North British locomotives made only very rare appearances as substitutes for failures and then usually at the London end. No.D868 kept its green livery until it went to Swindon in September 1967 emerging in blue with full yellow ends and serif numerals by the end of the year.
