Peter Kerslake says "On home ground here at Truro in mid Cornwall in September of 1965 'Warship' D823 'Hermes' named after a Royal Naval aircraft carrier went newly built from Swindon to Plymouth's Laira depot in July of 1960, later heading to Newton Abbot for just three years from September of 1962, thence back to Laira and Newton Abbot again before working mainly on to the Southern Region where 'Warships' had been transferred from the Summer of 1963 .
Deployed on Waterloo to Exeter services their time on Southern Region duties lasted until 1971 with 'Hermes' being withdrawn in early October of 1971."
