CR 426 1890s Location unknown
Caledonian Railway Conner 2-4-0 No. 426. Built in 1867 and rebuilt at St. Rollox by D. Drummond in 1885. Withdrawn in 1908.
Benjamin Conner's locomotives were pure products of the Victorian era and looked as if they were built to last a century or more! The trio of enginemen in typical 1890s garb, might surely have agreed. However, bigger locomotives were needed to haul increasingly heavy trains and few of these magnificent machines lasted beyond the Great War. The location remains a mystery, perhaps identifiable by the small section of shed seen on the left? Restored from an original period 8"x10" print.
