2917 1909c near Langley

GWR Saint class 4-6-0 No 2917 Saint Bernard near Langley with an up express for Paddington in c1909.

Peter Kerslake says "A nice clean locomotive and a nice crisp exhaust here as 2917 "Saint Bernard", one of the "true" "Saints" speeds past Langley on the G.W.R. main line.
"Saint Bernard" would be just two years old at the date of this portrait, having emerged from Swindon Works in August of 1907 and being one of the batch of twenty constructed that year, all with long cone type boilers and neater curved front "Drop Ends" to the front frames, together with screw reversing gear.
2917 lasted in service until October of 1934"
