At Crewe Works, Stock Shed, on Sunday, 1st May 1938, ex-London & North Western Railway Webb 'Coal Engine Saddletank' or 'Box Tank' 0-6-0 No. 27492. Built at Crewe in February 1906 as L&NWR No. 2090, it was re-numbered in November 1920 as L&NWR 3275, then to LMS 7492 in September 1928, and finally to LMS 27492 in April 1934. It was withdrawn from service in June 1939.

An interesting photo, note the prominent wagon. It is wagon number 314597. It appears to be a classic D1666 but very interestingly, does not have standard RCH oil axleboxes, unlike every other published photo of this design (assuming it really is D1666). These appear to be one of the LMS' own designs of oil box and appear to have embossed on them LMS 8 x 4 (the journal size), thus creating a distinct variant of this very common wagon. It would be interesting know why this otherwise standard wagon has different axleboxes to the known majority, and how many more were so fitted.
