The late Les Hanson was a very early exponent of colour photography as far back as 1936. It was a very expensive and difficult to process medium and very few people had the expertise or income to use it effectively. This superb portrait of ex-L&NWR 18" Goods 0-6-0 No. 8592 was taken at Bletchley MPD in June 1938. To be certain of a successful photograph, Les also took a standard b/w exposure as a 'safety' copy! 8592 was built at Crewe in March 1901 as L&NWR No. 559 and was withdrawn in March 1950 re-numbered LMS 28592 and still in her LMS livery.
