6011 1956 Leamington Spa
Peter Kerslake recalls "Wolverhampton Stafford Road's 6011 "King James I" on its home ground, namely the Birmingham , Woverhampton and Shrewsbury main line from Paddington. Here it is recorded as working an Up Snow Hill express, held in the middle road at Leamington Spa is one of their own 56xx tanks with a freight.
Allocated in its early years to Old Oak Common 6011 was at Bristol Bath Road at the time when that shed had an allocation of "Kings" on its books in the Wartime years, before a short return to Old Oak prior to many years at Stafford Road.
I remember 6011 working the 4.10.p.m. from Plymouth to Paddington one afternoon in the mid 'fifties, and it caused some excitement amongst the local "spotters", having probably worked down at very short notice the previous day from Paddington, probably a last minute substitution at Old Oak".
