6013 1962-09-09 Swindon dump

6013 1962-09-09 Swindon dump

With a hastily chalked 6013 on the cabside , and the sinister "C Shop" chalked below King Henry VII is destined to end its days there. The Shop was where larger engines were disposed of rather than on Swindon's condemned line which was the end of the line for smaller classes of engines.
6023 had been withdrawn from Wolverhampton Stafford Road three months before this view, but had spent most of its working life as an Old Oak Common engine, allocated there from March 1930 until June 1961.
Note the substantial cylinder block, probably from an inside cylindered Tank Engine.
