Peter Kerslake says "Just fourteen of the "Kings" received new front ends between September 1954 and June 1958 and 6001 was not one of that fourteen which would explain it retaining the original style of inside valve casing and spindle covers fitted to the initial twenty from newly built and seen here. 6001 was condemned in September of 1962."
