Peter Kerslake says "With just three months left in service, Wolverhampton Stafford Road's 6016 King Edward V still looks in fine order on 12th June 1962 working an Up express. During its 34 years' lifespan, 6016 had "done the rounds" of GWR depots; its early years as a West country engine allocated to Laira and Newton Abbot later being followed in 1952 by periods allocated to Wolverhampton Stafford Road and Old Oak Common interspersed with just a short return to Laira from February 1959 which lasted until September 1960."
