6011 3440 1957-06-15 Bath Spa
City of Truro had brought in the News Chronicle "I-Spy" special, probably from Bristol. Our fortunate cameraman must have thought it his lucky day here on the 15th. June 1957 at Bath with Wolverhampton Stafford Road's 6011, "King James I", a "rare bird" on this line, recorded on film together with 3440 "City of Truro".
That dreadful board on "City of Truro" does nothing to enhance the image, however, and it couldn't have been much bigger, but 6011 is clearly looking its best, freshly released from Swindon Works following a three month Light Intermediate Overhaul and is now "Running In" on the daily "All Stations" local from Bristol back to Swindon before being given clearance by the Works Inspectors at Swindon to return home to Wolverhampton.
The original design of inside valve spindle covers so clearly shown here on 6011 confirms that this "King" was one of the sixteen which did not have new front frames and inside cylinder block fitted within the September 1954 to June 1958 period.
