6008 1948 Leamington Spa

The painted " SRD " just visible on the front of the frame here on " King James II " confirms his home as being Wolverhampton Stafford Road, the engine having been well turned out for this working from its home town to Paddington via Birmingham.
6008 retains the original design of smoothed casing on the inside valve chest, later replaced by a design providing a more secure foothold for shed staff, but the front covers over the inside valves look as though they are both missing for some reason.
Transferred from Stafford Road down to Plymouth's Laira Depot in 1952 this engine was returned to Stafford Road again in 1959, being condemned from there in 1962.
