6001 " King Edward VII " displays signs of post war general neglect and the lack of cleaners at its Old Oak Common depot at this time, looking very much the worse for wear some two years before it was able to undergo a Heavy General Overhaul at Swindon in May 1949. Allocated from new to Old Oak in July 1927 the engine remained there until October 1954 for a transfer to Wolverhampton's Stafford Road. Beneath the layers of grime can be seen the original rounded inside valve chest cover and first design of front brass axlebox cover together with the original style of main steam pipe which remained in use until the mid 'fifties.
