6004 1961-08-16 London Paddington

6004 King George III was one of six Kings transferred from Old Oak Common down to Cardiff Canton in September 1960, and although now a Canton engine and in typical fine condition for a Canton engine the Shedmaster at Old Oak has today rostered the King to one of its former duties on a Wolverhampton line duty, rather than send it back home to Wales as would be expected.
King George III remained at Cardiff Canton until September 1962, latterly stored in the open and out of service as the invading Diesels took over the last duties appropriate for Canton's Kings, being, in company with sister engine 6024, the last two of the class to remain at Canton.
A Laira allocated engine from early 1954, when it exchanged Depots with Laira's 6014 going to Wolverhampton Stafford Road in its place, 6004 was later in 1959 reallocated to Old Oak Common as work on the West of England express rosters went over to Diesel traction, the subsequent move down to Canton in 1960 again being in an effort to roster the last of the Kings to appropriate main line passenger duties.
