6008 1955-04 Didcot
Laira's 6008, " King James II " was in Swindon Works for a Light Casual Overhaul which lasted from early February until late March 1955, and is now on a two coach local stopping duty before being returned down to its home shed. The engine has not been repainted whilst in the Works although this shot shows that the outside steam pipes and outside cylinder casings appear to be freshly painted and it still has the original inside valve spindle covers fitted to the early members of the class when built.
6008 was back at Swindon again in October 1955, this time for a Heavy General Overhaul which took it out of service until mid December.
