6008 1928 Norton Fitzwarren

6008 1928 Norton Fitzwarren

GWR King 4-6-0 No 6008 King James II working what was stated to be the 10.30am down 'Cornish Riviera' approaching Wellington in 1928. However we are sure this location is incorrect. The leading vehicle is a Bullion Van which worked primarily up to Snow Hill.
Further information from Keith Ettle confirms the location as Norton Fitzwarren before rebuilding and the line quadrupling. The box is Silk Mill Crossing, the line to the left is a siding trailing into the Down Main.
The train is an Up train and possibly the CRE judging by the first two Bk Comps and the make of the remaining train. The Bullion Van is not unusal as they were often used to carry gold or precious mails from New York that came off ships anchored in Plymouth Sound. They could be seen in Oceon Mail trains. The neat clipped hedge boundary, which was on the Up side was a feature here.
