6013 1929 Norton Fitzwarren

GWR King 4-6-0 No 6013 King Henry VIII has just passed Norton Fitzwarren with the 1.30pm Paddington to Penzance in 1929. Castle No 4080 Powderham Castle stands in the loop with a down ECS train.

Peter Kerslake adds "This is the location of the fatal wartime accident of 4 November 1940 which claimed the lives of 26 passengers including 13 Royal Naval sailors and 6028's fireman when his driver mistook the loop line upon which 4080 is standing for the main line and was derailed here as another King went past, just avoiding the wreckage."
