6000 D601 1958-08-23 Aller Junction
A really nice shot from here at Aller Junction, at the foot of the Westbound climb to Dainton summit, with Old Oak Common's 6000 " King George V " helping D 601 "Ark Royal " down to Plymouth on what my book tells me is the 10. 35 a.m. relief to the down " Cornish Riviera ". It is possible that these two have worked right through from Paddington as 6000 has the 10.35 a.m Reporting Number in position, and the load looks to be very heavy indeed (14 coaches), but it could be that the " King " has come off the 10.35.a.m. here at Newton Abbot and that this is, in fact, a later train now with the incorrect Reporting Number. By a remarkable coincidence I have just today found in " Peto' s Register of the " Kings "an almost identical photograph of this very same train taken at this location at the same time possibly by this same cameraman which discloses the date to be Saturday, 23rd. August, 1958
