6018 1961 near Beaconsfield
6018 was one of the "Kings" which did not receive new front frames complete with new inside cylinders during its lifetime, as not all the class were so fitted when passing through Swindon Works, and this very late view shows the engine retaining its original covers to the inside valve spindles, an improved version being fitted to the engines when they had new frames.
Being condemnd in December 1962 was not, however, the end of the road for " King Henry VI " as having received a Heavy overhaul a year previously 6018 was in a fair condition, and was selected to haul the B.R. Special on Sunday, 28th. April, 1963, which it did in fine style.
Again, fate took a strange turn, for after this run 6018 went back to Swindon to be prepared for sale to Butlins, but the sale failed to materialise and 6018 was condemned for a second time and disposed of in Swindon's " C " Shop in October, 1963.
