6010 1957c Westbury
This view shows Laira shed's 6010 before it received its new front frames during a subsequent overhaul at Swindon Works as it still has the old style of inside valve spindle covers with which the early Kings were originally fitted, and it also lacks the reinforced lifting holes in the front frames, part of the new ones when fitted. This is the 8.30.a.m. from Plymouth North Road to Paddington bearing the newMayflower Headboard and it looks to be a wet day here at Westbury! For those interested in such things the sleepering of the turnouts in the foreground is worth studying - there are several short 'butted up' sleepers and the ones beneath the crossing V on the right are not continuous.
