An extraordinary decision to admit 6002 to Swindon Works for overhaul in June 1962 lies behind this picture, as in September that year it was withdrawn from service from Wolverhampton Stafford Road, barely three months after going through the Works.
Although not repainted at that visit 6002 looks in good condition and would have had years of service left had things not taken the course that they did.
