6019 1950s Reading
Down Main showing the westward facing bay platforms. 6019, King Henry V, unlike a number of the class which spent virtually their whole working lives at one of the three principal Motive Power Depots, did the rounds being allocated initially from new in 1928 to Wolverhampton's Stafford Road followed by spells at Laira, Newton Abbot, Bristol Bath Road, Old Oak Common and finally at Cardiff Canton. As suitable work on the main line between Wolverhampton and Paddington diminished in late 1960, just as it had done earlier on the West of England services, six Kings, of which 6019 was one, were transferred from Old Oak Common to Cardiff Canton, working a number of the South Wales main line express passenger rosters, in addition to runs from Cardiff to Shrewsbury and back until 1962 when in March of that year the Beyer Peacock Diesels came on to the Paddington duties and the six Kings were condemned during the following months. 6019 was withdrawn from service in September 1962, just eleven months following a five month Heavy Casual Overhaul at Swindon Works, and was eventually cut up at Cashmores at Newport
