68785 1950s Colwick J52
J52 0-6-0ST No.68785 was built as a GNR J14 (later LNER J53) in 1896 by Neilson’s and transferred to Colwick in November 1955 working from there until January 1958 when it was despatched to Doncaster Works for the last time. Note the condensing pipes and dome associated with its days working over the GNR widened lines when allocated to Hornsey, from new until 1952. A Stirling designed J53 that had been rebuilt with a slightly larger boiler into a J52 could always be identified by the elongated front spectacle plates.
