65438 1953 Cambridge Station & MPD

65438 1953 Cambridge Station & MPD

Ex-Great Eastern Railway T.W. Worsdell 'Y14' (LNER 'J15') class 0-6-0 No. 65438. Built at Stratford in September 1899 as GER No. 523 and withdrawn in July 1958.

In this interesting 1953 scene at Cambridge, 65438 is in charge of an engineer's inspection saloon and the adjacent shed appears to be very busy. It is no coincidence that Thomas Worsdell's highly successful 'J15s', introduced in 1883 continued to be built over a thirty year timespan with no less than 283 eventually in service! Sister locomotive 65462 thankfully survives in preservation.
