7910 1930s Brentwood

7910 1930s Brentwood

Ex-Great Eastern Railway Thomas Worsdell 'Y14' (LNER 'J15') No. 7910 makes an impressive sight as it passes Brentwood Station and its adjacent MPD with a lengthy ballast freight that includes the Stratford ballast brake van No. EX100. The first two wagons are former GER vehicles and remain 'dumb buffered' - a feature allowed only for departmental vehicles. Suprisingly the remainder of the rake are mainly LMS vehicles of MR origin.

The close similarity between the 'J15s' and Worsdell's later North Eastern Rly. 'J21' design is notable. 7910 was built at Stratford in Nov. 1900 as GER No. 910 and was withdrawn in Oct. 1956 as BR No. 65404.
