The twenty BR Riddles 'Standard 3' 2-6-0s all built in 1954, seemed to be locomotives for which there was no specific need. They were consequently widely scattered across the UK and often on lesser and menial duties including engineer's inspection work with one coach attached. Nine month old 77004 at Darlington MPD in December 1954 with just twelve years of service ahead.
