WPR 17 1970-03-25 In the Den
One of the last trains to pass over the main line threads its way through Wemyss Den on 25th March 1970 with WPR No.17 in charge. This was a difficult location for photography as much of this part of the line was twisting (note the check rail) and the trees were densely packed, leading to dim conditions in the summertime when the wood was in full foliage. Any mid-day sunlight which did penetrate shone directly into the camera lens. At this point the line was ascending 1 in 233 and the locomotive working hard, though the summit and respite was less than a mile away at the approach to Cameron Crossing, following which the gradient fell continuously to Denbeath.
