D53xx 1960s Lochailort

Alistair Moffat says " Lochailort on the Mallaig Extention. The photographer taking the picture from a Ft William bound service. The starter/home signal in the off position and the right hand curve of the line ahead of that train would provide further evidence of this. The hills are pretty steep in that part of the world. This station had a replacement WW2 standard signal box. (The original having burnt down I believe.) The station and railway were used regularly in the sabotage training of SOE agents from nearby Inverailort House. Famous names associated with these activities being David Niven (The only Actor to play 007 who could have been the real thing). Two other gentlemen providing the benefit of their experience being Fairbairn and Sykes, ex Shanghai policemen who are famous for the design of the Commando Dagger (manufactured by Wilkinson Sword) and a very interesting never out of print little manual on how to use it for one purpose only! "
By 1969 the passing loop was removed.
