D5396 1960s Beeston

Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. Type 2 diesel electric, later Class 27, No.D5396 was still fairly new at the date of this photograph, having been built in June 1962. As with the other members of the class it was transferred to the Scottish Region, going to Glasgow Eastfield in July 1968. It became No.27052 under the TOPS regime and returned to the East Midlands in 1987 when it went to Berry's scrapyard at Leicester for cutting-up.

The superb brickwork of the Beeston station building and the decorative ironwork of the canopies which led to their gaining listed status can be appreciated in this picture.
