GWR Hall 4-6-0 No 6940 Didlington Hall with a Swansea-Penzance express near Aller Junction on 5 July 1955.

Peter Kerslake says "Laira depot's 6940 "Didlington Hall" is heading this modest six coach load past the siding used to hold banking engines and freights at the foot of Dainton bank, the gradient here being a modest one in 98 before it steepens to a daunting one in 36 at its steepest just before the summit some two miles ahead.
The line from Aller Junction down to Torquay and terminating at Kingswear is just visible behind the last coach and it does not look as though 6940's driver or fireman are being worked very hard yet, but they will be shortly!"
