Some classes of locomotive are specifically designed for dock shunting and other similar locations where tight radius curves are encountered. Ex-Caledonian Railway '498' (LMS '2F') class 0-6-0 Tank No. 56171 was one of just 23 built (1911-21) to the design of John McIntosh. This example was photographed at Glasgow's Dawsholm MPD in June 1955 and served for 40 years until withdrawal in March 1961.
