Lorry 1952c Leslie

Lorry 1952c Leslie

Two vehicles belonging to Smith, Anderson & Co Ltd photographed at their Fettykil Paper Mill, Leslie, Fife. They are Jnsn fleet No 11 Reg No GSP 825 and Albion fleet No 4 Reg No JSP 523 seen in c1952.

From Nick Deacon who has all the details; "Anderson & Co. Ltd operated a modern fleet of road vehicles and two of them are seen with tarpaulined loads ready to depart during the 1950s/early 1960s. GSP825 (Fleet No. 11) was one of the distinctive ‘standard platform’ Jensen ‘Light Commercial’ lorry types built with a light alloy chassis and body with the radiator grille panel cut out to form the ‘JNSN’ logo – a company innovation making the vehicles easily recognisable. The whole of the panel was removable allowing easy fitting and removing of the engine. Some 600 ‘Light Commercials’ were built in various guises until 1956. JSP523 (Fleet No. 4) was one of the ‘Chieftain’ range vehicles built by Albion Motors, the Scottish automobile and commercial vehicle company founded in 1899 at Scotstoun, Glasgow. The company was purchased by Leyland in 1951, but their vehicles continued to be manufactured under the Albion brand until 1972. The vehicle is believed to be an ‘FT111TR’ type built between 1952-1959 with a Scammell coupling for long distance trunk haulage."
