GCR 440 1910s Manchester Central Station

GCR 440 1910s Manchester Central Station

Ex-Manchester, Sheffiels & Lincolnshire Railway Sacre '6B' (LNER 'D12') class 4-4-0 No. 440. Built at Gorton in June 1878 and withdrawn in May 1923. Even if they weren't the epitome of all the Victorian era 4-4-0 designs, Charles Reboul Sacre's '6B' class were certainly one of the most elegant. I hope that this lovely portrait of 440 in Great Central livery at Manchester Central in about 1910 proves my point!
