Some of the concepts behind Edward Thompson's rebuilds were slightly odd. He took a batch of just thirteen ex- Great Central Railway 'Q4' 0-8-0 tender engines and rebuilt them as 0-8-0 Tanks to become 'Q1' heavy duty shunters as illustrated here by 69932. After a deal of 'tweaking' to resolve insufficient water capacity, they found useful work, particularly at Frodingham. This photo was taken in May 1955 at Doncaster MPD.
